GoodTemps Named Family Financial Stability Center of Excellence

MUSKEGON — GoodTemps, a subsidiary of Goodwill Industries of West Michigan (GIWM), has been named a 2012 Family Financial Stability Center of Excellence award winner for their commitment to developing an infrastructure and capacity for family financial fitness. GIWM was one of four Goodwills internationally to be given this award.

Beginning in 2001, Goodwill Industries International (GII) and the Annie E. Casey Foundation, launched an awards program to recognize Goodwill organizations that are making strides to improve the lives of the individuals they employ, the families they serve, and the communities they strengthen. Each winner receives a $5,000 award and will be recognized at the GII 2013 Spring Learning Conference in Washington, D.C.

Goodwill’s mission to empower people to overcome employment barriers and to help strengthen families and communities is reflected in programs that integrate financial stability into their practices. As part of the application process, each Goodwill was asked to describe their agency’s family financial stability strategies, policies and programs to date, and demonstrate through measurable outcomes that they are advancing the financial stability of families. GIWM’s application featured the comprehensive money management and saving incentive program offered by GoodTemps, GIWM’s alternative staffing company. The program is offered to all employees placed by GoodTemps. Additionally, GoodTemps’ job retention program, developed to assist temporary workers in successfully transitioning to permanent positions, was also highlighted.

“We appreciate the opportunity to share and celebrate the work of our GoodTemps’ staffing team in advancing family financial stability through innovative program strategies that empower individuals to keep their families healthy, safe, and financially secure,” said GIWM President and CEO Richard Carlson.

The other three Goodwill agencies also receiving the award are Goodwill Industries of KYOWVA (Huntington, WV), Goodwill Industries of Hawaii (Honolulu), and Goodwill Industries-Essex Kent Lambton (Sarnia, Ontario). There are currently 165 Goodwill organizations in the U.S. and Canada, with 14 Goodwill affiliated organizations in other countries around the world.
